Paul Duvall

Welcome to my site. I created this space for businesses and builders. I’m Paul Duvall, an award-winning author and former AWS executive with decades of software engineering experience. I focus on helping engineering teams upskill on AI-native development practices. I also bring over 15 years of cloud innovation experience and a strong commitment to DevSecOps.

My career began in the Electronic Data Systems (EDS) mailroom, where I taught myself to code, completed the two-year Systems Engineering Development (SED) program, and progressed to developing large-scale applications for governments and enterprises. Recognizing patterns in software development, I authored Continuous Integration: Improving Software Quality and Reducing Risk, a Jolt Award-winning book that helped my work reach a broader audience.

Building on these foundations, Rob Daly and I launched Automation for the People, LLC, later rebranded as Stelligent Systems, LLC. It became the first company solely focused on Continuous Delivery and DevOps on AWS, helping customers adopt these practices at scale.

Bootstrapped from the ground up, Stelligent grew to over $10M in annual revenue, achieving AWS Premier Partner status and helping nearly 100 enterprise customers implement robust DevOps practices on AWS. My contributions earned recognition as an AWS Hero, and the business was successfully sold in 2018 for $25M. I later joined AWS, as a Director, where I advanced cloud security and DevSecOps, supporting numerous customers and collaborating with remarkable teams.

Over the past several years, I've been deeply immersed in AI-assisted development, working with various AI coding tools and approaches. Through extensive hands-on experience building dozens of repositories and automation solutions, I've identified repeated practices and patterns that consistently deliver results. This practical experience has enabled me to develop strategies and techniques that help others effectively leverage AI in their development processes.
